London: population 7.557 million, area 1579 km².
The strategic planning authority is the Great London Authority (GLA) and executive action and local planning is handled by the 31 London Boroughs, the City of Westminster and the City of London. Together they form a region of the United Kingdom termed "Greater London". The population is growing (it fell after the War).
Lindon Boroughs are responsible for most public parks though increasingly management is done by charitable trusts such as Groundwork Trusts (ref http://www.groundwork.org.uk/) or the London Wildlife Trust (V). Other major open space authorities are the Royal Parks (e.g Greenwich, Regent's Park, St James's Park) which is a branch of central government and manages ten major royal parks (ref.http://www.royalparks.gov.uk/). They are also Commons run by commons conservators (e.g Wimbledon Common http://www.wpcc.org.uk/) and some major spaces such as Epping Forest or Hampstead Heath which are the responsibility of the City of London.
The Lea Valley Regional Park Authority is run by a consortium of local authorities including London Boroughs and some English counties (ref. http://www.leevalleypark.org.uk/. )
