What?
This Symposium will launch a new international network - the European Urban Landscape Partnership - which will focus on the planning, design and management of the urban landscape in Europe's towns and cities.
The European Landscape Convention for the first time focuses policy attention on the planning and management of Europe's landscapes, but stresses that urban and peri-urban landscapes are at least as important as rural and natural landscapes, in particular to the hundreds of millions of Europeans who live in urban areas.
The symposium aims to do three things;
- to bring together professionals and academics from across Europe who have similar interests and responsibilities for urban landscape issues in practice, teaching and research for an initial exchange of ideas and information.
- to explore ideas and areas for closer cooperation in the field of the urban landscape, in particular with regard to the potentials opened up through the cooperation between universities and municipal authorities for the mutual benefit of teaching, research and practice.
- to take the first steps in establishing a permanent network aimed at furthering the awareness of, the understanding about, safeguarding the quality and developing the potential of the urban landscape for the benefit of all Europe's citizens.
